The Orthopedic Value-Based Care (OVBC) conference, now in its 9th year, has clearly evolved into a central gathering for stakeholders across the orthopedic ecosystem. However, osteoporosis prevention and treatment, even after fracture, is underutilized and guidelines have recently evolved. Controversies surrounding optimal nutrition, who to evaluate and treat, available medications and other therapies will be discussed. Clinicians should appreciate the variety of conditions that contribute to fracture risk and that approaches to reduce osteoporosis continue to be under implemented.
